Life of a solicitor apprentice

As a solicitor apprentice, 20% of my week is dedicated to undertaking my professional course which I do at BPP University. The professional course covers the legal areas required by the SRA to be covered to later qualify as a solicitor. The apprenticeship provides for me to take a study day to support my professional qualification alongside working full time at Kingsfords.

I am currently studying contract law having completed public law at the end of 2023.

My study days are usually very busy with reading materials and various caselaw surrounding the weekly topic. The course is at a pace that allows me to undertake my study whilst working without being too much pressure to be overwhelming. So far, the apprenticeship has provided me with helpful knowledge and skills I can use when working the remaining 80% of my week.

With the structure of the apprenticeship it means that I have sufficient time to study without this impacting significantly into my personal time.

Whilst in the office, I work in the Private Family Law department working with Jenni Morrow.

I undertake a variety of tasks which includes drafting emails and letters, drafting applications and forms, creating bundles and undertaking client care.

I have already learnt a lot from my apprenticeship since starting this in September 2023 and I am able to use this knowledge to apply to my role in the office.

I think apprenticeships are a great way to gain experience in your desired career, you learn and develop professional skills and work towards a qualification all at once.
